20 Jan Day #19 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge
Our 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge is all about introducing you to some simple ways to develop a healthy relationship with your phone in 2017!
How did you get on with yesterday’s challenge? Did you manage to keep your notifications and vibrations muted all day? Today’s challenge is another tricky one! On previous days of our 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge, we’ve asked you to leave your phone at home for an hour or two whilst you go out, but today we’re challenging you to set a time boundary around your phone use, such as not using it after 10pm.
Day 19 – Set a time boundary around using your phone
Did you know that we check our smartphones 150 times a day? Today we’re sharing a method which will help you reduce this figure. Yet Day 19 is also particularly difficult, as unlike the previous time-related challenges, where we asked you to leave your phone at home, setting a time boundary does not remove the object of distraction. In other words, you will need to exercise strong self-discipline to not check your phone as it might still be in the same room as you. Unlike on our digital detox retreats, where we take the temptation away from you!
To give you a fighting chance, we recommend planning an alternative leisure activity during the time constraint period and placing your phone face down, again with all notifications muted so that you don’t accidently get drawn into breaking your ban. Better still, switch it off!
We’re hoping that this challenge will give you back your leisure time by reducing the number of times you check your phone unnecessarily each day. And imagine the sense of satisfaction you’ll feel after ignoring your phone and using your time more productively!
Tomorrow we’re on Day 20. All the challenge videos are on our YouTube channel. Use the hashtag #30DayDigitalDetoxChallenge on Twitter and tell us how you’re getting on!
