08 Jan Day #7 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge
Our 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge is all about introducing you to some simple ways to develop a healthy relationship with your phone in 2017!
It’s Day 7 of our digital detox challenge!
Yesterday we asked you to uninstall your work email for the day. Today we’re looking at social media apps on our phones and the kind of aimless scrolling and jumping between them which can waste hours of our time.
Day 7 – take your favourite social media app off your phone for today
So, today we want you to decide which one is your go-to social media app – the one you habitually find yourself scrolling through when you’re a bit bored or when you first pick up your phone. Temporarily delete just that app from your smartphone for the day.
There are increasing numbers of studies showing that the length of time we spend on social media is linked with higher rates of mental health problems, particularly depression and low self-esteem. One study went further and showed that staying off all social media for a week actually increased happiness.
2016 saw a big trend for all kinds of people (including several high-profile celebrities), quitting social media temporarily. All of them reported how much better they felt afterwards. Today we want you to get a glimpse into how you might feel if you didn’t spend so much time on social media. Does it have any impact on your mood? Do you feel any differently at the end of the day? We’re only asking you to delete one app, not all of them, so it won’t be a dramatic change but enough for you to notice a difference.
Tomorrow is Day 8 which means you’ll have been doing the digital detox challenge for a week. If you haven’t already, subscribe to our YouTube channel, for our daily challenge videos. And use the challenge hashtag #30DayDigitalDetoxChallenge if you’re on Twitter to let us know how you’re getting on!
