12 Jan Day #11 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge
Our 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge is all about introducing you to some simple ways to develop a healthy relationship with your phone in 2017!
Welcome to Day 11 of the digital detox challenge.
Today’s challenge is one of our top tips for anyone who wants to cut down on excessive screen-time.
Day 11 – turn off phone notifications for today
With all the many, many apps we all now have on our phone and all the possible notifications and alerts for each of them, our phone screens can sometimes light up like a firework display! App notifications are specifically designed by software designers to get your attention. It’s no wonder that ignoring them is actually incredibly hard. Research has shown that even just seeing a notification, without responding to it, is enough to seriously distract us from the task in hand.
So, make life easy for yourself and switch all your notifications off, just for today. That way, you get to choose when you check your phone. Which gives you more time to concentrate on what you’re doing. Of course, it may make you check your phone more often to begin with if you have a touch of FOMO. Give it a go and see how you get on! Many of the guests on our digital detox retreats say that this is one of the two permanent changes they’ve made to their smartphone use after the retreat. The other one is buying an alarm clock! The team at Time To Log Off have all our phone notifications switched off permanently. We guarantee it makes a big difference.
Tomorrow is Day 12, the daily videos for the digital detox challenge are really building up on our YouTube channel! Remember to use the challenge hashtag #30DayDigitalDetoxChallenge on Twitter. Let us know how you’re getting on, we really want to hear about your progress.
