09 Jan Day #8 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge
Our 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge is all about introducing you to some simple ways to develop a healthy relationship with your phone in 2017!
It’s Day 8 of the digital detox challenge, you’ve been doing the challenge now for a week!
You’ve been experimenting so far with doing without various aspects of your digital life and seeing how that feels. Now we want you to drill down a bit into the detail of when and why you spend time on your digital devices. So for today we want you to;
Day 8 – keep a digital diary
Try today to keep a note of every time you pick up your phone and when you put it down again. With some research showing we check our phones up to 150 times a day, simply logging it all may be a challenge!
Each time you make a note (even just a mental one) of when you’ve picked up or checked your phone, have a look at how long you’ve gone since the last time you’ve checked it. The idea here is to get a sense of how much time in your day you’re allowing yourself to focus on other activities, and how long you can actually go before you get the urge to check your phone.
This challenge is going to give you an idea of how much time your phone habit is eating up in your day. And also give you a quantifiable sense of the depth of your dependency. Don’t beat yourself up about it though, that’s not the idea at all, it’s simply about collecting information which will help you as you progress through the challenge.
Check back tomorrow for Day 9 and subscribe to our YouTube channel, for the daily challenge videos. Do use the challenge hashtag #30DayDigitalDetoxChallenge on Twitter to let us know how you’re getting on, we’d love to hear from you!
