Our 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge is all about introducing you to some simple ways to develop a healthy relationship with your phone in 2017!
Welcome to Day 1 of our challenge!
We’re guessing you’re here because you’re feeling that you’d like to have a little bit more control over your smartphone habits? Maybe last year you found yourself unable to switch off from work email after hours, or you know that in the last 12 months you spent one too many social situations distracted by your phone, not really giving your attention to the people you were with?
Well, we’d love to help you develop a healthier relationship with your phone in 2017 so you’ve come to the right place!
Day 1 – 30 minutes away from your phone
Day 1 of our challenge sets the tone for all the other days as it’s about starting small and beginning with something that feels manageable. We know that for many of you the thought of going a whole week without your smartphone (as on one of our digital detox retreats), or even 24 hours, seems frankly impossible. And you may not even feel that’s actually what you want to do. But you do want to cut down on your screentime. So where do you start?
Well, for Day 1 we’re suggesting that you just find one 30 minute period to be without your phone. It could be leaving it at your desk while you go to a meeting, or pop out for lunch. It could be putting it in another room when you’re eating a meal, to focus on your family. Or perhaps you might try putting it away in a drawer while you read a book or are engrossed in a TV programme.
Whatever you choose doesn’t matter at all, simply that you try flexing your ‘phone-free’ muscle for 30 minutes and see how you get on.
And don’t worry if you try it but don’t quite succeed for the full 30 minutes, that’s OK too. This is all about trying out something new and seeing how far you get. And noticing how you feel about it.
