Our 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge is all about introducing you to some simple ways to develop a healthy relationship with your phone in 2017!
Do you remember Day 2‘s challenge? We asked you to eat lunch without your phone in the room. Today’s challenge goes one step further – we’re asking you to prepare a meal without the help of your phone to look up a recipe! Instead, ask a friend or family member for a recommendation.
When was the last time you asked for recipe advice from a friend? Despite the wealth of information online, it’s easy to succumb to mindless scrolling – especially when looking for a recipe. We are attracted by photos of delicious food, only to find we don’t have the obscure ingredients the recipe requires at the back of the cupboard. Also, how do we know that our chosen recipe will work out well? There may be reviews, but there is no substitute for the advice passed on by word of mouth from friends!
Aside from getting your hands on a sure-fire hit of a recipe, if you have asked for it in advance, the chances are you’ve probably already picked up the ingredients you need. So, unlike when you ‘google’ last-minute dinner inspiration, you will have the opportunity to try something new! Moreover, the processes involved in cooking and baking are known to be relaxing and rewarding and can help you to unwind. We often encourage the guests on our retreats to indulge in some cooking for its stress-relieving qualities. Of course, with no phones in sight!
We think this challenge is perfect for Friday night after a long week at work. Spatulas at the ready!
Check back tomorrow for Day 27. The digital detox challenge videos are all on our YouTube channel. Use the hashtag #30DayDigitalDetoxChallenge on Twitter to tweet and update us on how you’ve got on today!
