Day #4 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge

Our 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge is all about introducing you to some simple ways to develop a healthy relationship with your phone in 2017!

Welcome to Day 4 of the digital detox challenge!

Today we want you to see if you can change your thinking a little about the challenge. Instead of focusing on the negatives “I’m not going to have my phone with me” we want you to focus on the positive “I’m going to fully focus on the situation I’m in”. Specifically today, we want you to completely focus on the people you’re with, in every social situation.

Day 4 – practice being present in all your social interactions

Today, we’re not actually asking you to go without your phone, or even leave it in a different location. Rather, when you’re with friends or family, we want you to practice really being present with them and giving them your full attention.

No distracted screen scrolling, no surreptitiously checking texts and emails under the table, just focusing on giving them your complete attention, and what they’re saying and doing.

You’ll still have your phone with you so notice if you’re tempted to check it as usual. Do you find it hard to focus on the conversation? Are you distracted? Or, after a while, do you find yourself getting fully absorbed?

Our attention spans are one of the the aspects of our brains that are suffering the most with our digital dependency. Focusing on one person, or one thing, has become quite hard for us to do. So this day of the challenge may stretch you a bit. Then again, you may find it a breeze! It’ll certainly give you a bit more information about your phone habits.

Check back tomorrow for Day 5 and, if you haven’t already, subscribe to our YouTube channel, for the daily videos we’re be uploading for the challenge. At the end of the 30 days we hope you’ll have found something that works for you to help you spend time off-screen this year.
